Proverbs 11:2, 16:18, & 29:23

Christians tend to get themselves into major trouble when they develop an independent spirit toward the Lord instead of a God-dependent attitude. When you feel you don’t need the Lord, you drift away from Him pretty quickly. The reason people get this way is because of things like pride, prosperity, popularity, or power. These things tend to be like ropes that are used by Satan to pull our hearts away from God.
