David has proved to be a very effective warrior. The nation of Israel loved David for his courage and accomplishments. Songs were written commemorating him and honoring him. David behaved himself wisely. Saul could tell that the Lord was with him. This bothered Saul, and it made him very afraid, jealous, and angry. Saul conceives a plan to try to destroy David by offering his daughter, Merab, to him as his wife if he will fight the Lord’s battles. Saul is hoping the Philistines will kill David in battle.
