1 Samuel 18:8-11
The eighth verse reveals Saul’s response to the song. Saul was “very wroth,” which means “to blaze or glow in anger.” The saying of the women “displeased” him which means it angered him. The praise that used to go to Saul is now going to another. The green eyed monster of jealousy rises up in his heart. What is left but the throne itself. After Samuel was told that Saul was rejected from being king, it is believed that Saul was on the lookout for his successor.
