1 Samuel 1:17-28
When Hannah comes to the Temple she pours out her heart to the Lord in prayer and Eli, the High Priest, mistakenly thinks she is drunk because her mouth is moving but nothing is coming out. Hannah respectfully, responsibly, and reverently responds to his accusation and assumption explaining she has a broken heart and is not in a drunken stupor. After her explanation, Eli responds in compassion. Eli tells Hannah, “Go in peace. May God grant your petition.” Notice Hannah’s response.… “May I find grace.” That is exactly what Hannah needed. That’s what we need also when we are going through a trial. Our prayer should be for grace everyday. Grace is the power and desire to do God’s will.
