Rut living is no fun at all. You feel like you are at the bottom of a barrel or underneath the barrel. A rut is a ditch, trench ,gutter, crack, pothole, pit, or crater that has been cut out by something.

A rut is also a word that is used to describe a humdrum existence, a boring routine, the daily grinds of life, or a dead end.
